Last year I was writing about my rather unpleasant experience around Capsule Docs on Mac. It is time to add another chapter to that story.
I have made yet another attempt to use the tool on Mac. With my 10.12.6 Sierra machine it fails even more miserable than before. With the latest client (still Alpha, mind you!), I cannot even open a document.
Although I am logged in and even can open the same document on Windows with the same credentials, I am getting "Insufficient permissions"...
How hard can it be, really? What should happen for Check Point to start getting Mac user seriously?
In case you ask, the only reason for me to even touch Capsule Doc Viewer is that Check Point Education Services discontinued paper courseware, forcing both students and instructors to use e-kits with Capsule Docs protection. I will address this subject later on.

The Capsule Docs client on Mac is under active development. I should know as I am using it myself internally. There are significant improvements that I've seen in the private build I am currently using (versus the current public alpha).
ReplyDeleteIt is "under active development" for ages. At least it was somewhat working a year ago
DeleteThe good news is that you should see a new version in the near future.
DeleteThe bad news is that I have to use it now, and I cannot even open the file. :-(
DeleteHi Valeri,
DeleteI'm Roy, Capsule Docs Product Owner in Check Point.
In the last few months we have developed a new Capsule Docs Mac client that will support latest Mac OS and latest office version.
The new client will provide:
1. Editing Capabilities for protected documents.
2. Ability to apply/change/remove the protection settings of documents.
3. Ability to consume protected documents offline.
The product is under the last stages of QA verification and we aim to release it in a week or two.
If you would like, I'd be happy to demonstrate the new capabilities to you in order to improve your Capsule Docs experience.
Thanks,
Roy.
Hi Roy,
DeleteI appreciate your effort, but I cannot really see how demonstrating something that is not available yet can help me out.
My issue is quite simple: I have a pdf file signed by check Point Education services. My main instruments are Mac, iPad and iPhone. Yet neither can open the file. Even better, I cannot even use a Web Viewer on ds.checkpoint.com to open it. The only way to do my work is to run Capsule Doc viewer on Windows.
Any help you can provide?
I used this software on windows for CCSA certification and I can say that this software is awful. You can't puts note on it, you have to remember the password whereas you open the file from the same machine each time you open it...
ReplyDeleteI'm really reluctant to pass the CCSE course just because of that.
I miss the good old paper...
Please fix this
I do agree with your view. The user experience with Capsule is mediocre
Deletenow problem is solved. AT https://documentsecurity.checkpoint.com/ds-portal/home need change category from "checkpoint" to "ebook". then logout/ login to capsule on mac.
