PAN revenue is expected to surpass Check Point in 2017

At the beginning of the month I have mentioned that despite slower growth at the end of 2016, Palo Alto Networks still pose a serious competition to Check Point.

According to a new report from Cleveland Research Company (not publicly available), PAN is expected to surpass Check Point's revenue this year.

The graph below is quoted from the report. It present relative revenues for each for the mentioned vendors, as well as some others. Although the title says "Market Share", in reality we are talking about revenues.

It is quite interesting that both PAN and Fortinet have gained quite a momentum of growth. In the last six years both competitors have managed to increase their presence drastically while Check Point goes practically flat.

It is only my personal opinion, but it seems to me Check Point has to step up its game as soon as possible, both in marketing and in sales efforts. It looks like their time is running out quickly...

  1. I love Checkpoint with all my heart but its deployment and maintenance is still a geek/tech thing with all the legacy CLI etc we as techies love. Compared to the "Next/Next/Finish" approach of FRTN and PAN, it can be a tougher sell for managers looking for operational simplicity (just stating we have the best sandbox isn't enough). I know there's now R80 but it's also quite the migration path for existing customers. Also, licensing and price management has improved but would still require some polish Still, like you, I hope they will get their act together and come up with something.

  2. Check Point support is by far one of the WORST out there. You can sell people decent product, but if your support sucks, you really have nothing.

  3. Check Point could do well by paying their employees better. Their support is bad because they can't keep good employees. They'll start you at ~$40/year and keep you there, where others will come and offer you double that as soon as you've been there a year.

Agree with cnd. Checkpoint SMB and enterprise support is ***.
They have phone engineers, chat engineers and so on
takes a while to reach a real engineer to work with.
